Way To Your Heart: Summer Michaels

When I heard Less Than Three was celebrating their four year anniversary, I jumped at the chance to participate in some way. I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am to LT3. Sasha, Megan, and Sam all took a chance on me when they accepted Substitute Heart. Because of that chance, I get to call myself a published author :) I still squeal like a five year old when I say or type those words.

So what’s the way to the heart of Summer Michaels?

My heart can easily be reached by a breathtaking country drive. I live right outside of Lexington Kentucky. I’m surrounded by beautiful horse and cattle farms. Spring and fall are my favorite seasons. The farms are so beautiful those times of the year. Also that’s when Keeneland opens and nothing says Kentucky, like horse races.

Another way to my heart is reading. I love, love, love to read! My husband joked the other day when he went to the library with me about how I was the number one draft pick when it came to the library. I know all my librarians by name and vice versa. I live in a small town, so my library will often order books for you if you ask…I just so happen to ask a lot. My library currently has no male to male material. It is my hope to turn that around! ;)

I read everything I can get my hands on! My current favorite M/M reads are: Bareback by Chris Owen, King Perry by Edmond Manning, The Heart of Texas by RJ Scott, and Look Away Silence by Edward C. Patterson, just to name a few. With all of these books, I couldn’t put them down. They made me want to become a writer, maybe not just a writer…a writer that touches reader’s hearts. Each of these authors moved me. Their characters stay within my heart as I write.

The last and final way to my heart, is my family. I would'nt be the author/writer I am today without them. I have four wild and crazy kids who keep me on my toes. They teach me every day what it is to love unconditionally. They teach me to be strong and still believe in myself. My 7 year old will often come up to me, give me a bear hug, and tell me she is proud that I’m an author. That means the world to me.

When I completed Substitute Heart, I had my husband read it. I’m always nervous to have anyone read my work. I pour my heart into my stories. When he was finished, he cried and said he was so proud of me. To have my families blessing and encouragement is beyond amazing.

In honor of Less Than Three’s Anniversary, I am giving away two copies of Substitute Heart. All you have to do to enter is tell me what your favorite M/M book is. Be sure to leave your email address as well. I can’t wait to hear from you all! :) The giveaway will end April 16th

That's a hard one! I actually have a favorite series: PsyCop, by Jordan Castillo Price. I can't decide which book, tho! Thanks for a very sweet post!

...a...favourite...m/m book? Surely you jest. I currently have literally over a thousand on my laptop. With who knows how many more bookmarked on online-fiction sites. I like Megan Derr's Sword of the King and DTWD series more than is probably healthy. I'm salivating waiting for Jackie's story to come out in ebook. I've recently devoured Key Berrisford's Greenwood books and those were lovely, too. Gimme a few days and I'll have worked back around through my collection to another favourite that I'm rereading for the eleventy billionth time. :)

Too many great books to allow for picking just one. Love timing and Change of Heart series by Mary Calmes, Making of a man by Diane Adams.....

I just finished reading Black Magic by Megan Derr and I absolutely loved it. It was easily the best LT3 or M/M book I've ever read.

I live near a horse track too and I worked security there this past summer. It was a hellish job, but the horses were amazing. I totally understand what you're talking about!

OOh. That is so difficult. I have way too many favorite M/M books. Can I just mention maybe two. It's more than that but let's work with two, and they're both series.

The first is the Lost Gods series by Megan Derr

The second is the Conquest series by S.J Frost.

Love that saying about living a thousand lives. :D

Picking a fave M/M book is an amazingly tough question to answer. I guess I'd have to say Kelly Wyre's and H.J. Raine's Hearts Under Fire because I am love (so hard) with the character of Clark. <3

Ooh, that's a hard question. I can't pick only one, but the novels that really stayed with me are -

"Boy Meets Boy" by David Levithan
"Earthly Joys" by Philippa Gregory
"Maurice" by EM Forster
"The Charioteer" by Mary Renault

I love the Psy Cop series! I also love the shorts in between the books as well.

Karl, I haven't read that book yet. Gonna have to add it to my need to read list!

Hi Liz! I know what you mean. I have over 1,000 books on my Nook. I need to read so many... and purchase more than that;)

I love Megan! I love The Missing Butterfly. Just found out there is a book 2.

Gigi, are you a shifter lover? I really enjoyed Mary Calmes' shifters. I love all shifter reads.

Hi Mell! My dad worked at Kenneland for years when I was growing up. Security at the tracks is far from easy. This past Saturday, over 31,000 racing fans crowded Kenneland. Not easy to watch everything and everyone.

I love Megan's writing. So blessed to work with her!

Hi Crissy! Thanks for finding me on Facebook!

J.L.Langley was my first M/M author. Her With Caution series slays me. It gets better with each book. I need to reread that whole series.

Sandra, I have Conquest realize it was a series, so I have to buy the first few before I start it. I hate reading out of order. I have a few others by S.J.

Summer said...

Freedom, I haven't read either of those...gonna have to check them out!

Summer said...

Hi Cecille! I have Boy Meets Boy, but haven't gotten to read it yet.
