Kasey's Dominion

Author Spotlight...

Lissa Kasey
About this author

Lissa Kasey lives in St. Paul, MN, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing, and collects Asian Ball Joint Dolls who look like her characters. She has three cats who enjoy waking her up an hour before her alarm every morning and sitting on her lap to help her write. She can often be found at Anime Conventions masquerading as random characters when she's not writing about boy romance.

When did you write your first story?

When I was five. It was a long story about a couple of teenagers being shipwrecked on an island with a crazy haunted house.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I know I liked to write even before I enjoyed reading. I was writing romance and sex scenes by middle school and only read romance by the time I hit high school. Most of my writing was guy/guy and I thought I was weird, so I didn't share it.

Besides writing, what are a few of your hobbies?

I sew, mostly purses, which is funny cause I really don't use a purse. I'm kind of crafty, but not as crafty as I'd like to be. I also lack motivation, so I start a lot of stuff but it rarely gets finished. I'm also a perfectionist, so if it doesn't turn out right the first time I don't do it again.

What inspired you to write the Dominion Series?

The beginning had started as a writing exercise with a friend a few years ago. She had grand ideas about clones and some crazy scientific future. The story was typical bad ass girl and hot vamp guy and not doing anything for me. So I cut it apart, started over for the November Novel Writing Challenge and punted out a book that apparently had a lot of potential to grow.

What did you come up with the character Sei?

Sei is my alterego. I'm not as cool, pretty, or male as he is, but he does all the things that I wish I could. He's girly yes, but he doesn't let people beat him up over it, he fights back. I like reading M/M but it's hard to relate to the supermen of most fiction, so I wanted Sei to be more real, have some serious internal flaws, because overcoming that is harder than defeating any bad guy.

Your character Sei has been through a lot of ups and downs. What can we look forward to in the upcoming chapters of his life?

Life in general is ups and downs. I think if you want a character to feel real you have to show some of that stuff. Sei's still not the perfect guy, he never will be. He loves Gabe though, and he can admit to anyone that he loves Gabe. That's a big step. He's got more challenges to come like the birth of his child and life after graduating college. I'm sure we'll see more of his roller coaster in the future.

World Building…you're great at creating amazing worlds for your character's and reader's to enjoy, how do you do it?

Do you research? Just use your imagination? It's mostly imagination. I do some light research, but I really like the idea of creating all my own rules. The world around us is what shapes who we are, fucks us up and drives us forward, so if someone's battle is as supernatural as Sei's is, the world has to match it.

Jamie and Kelly…by far my favorite couple, are we going to see more of them as well?

Jamie and Kelly have their own book coming out May 2, Conviction. It's more in-depth on the two, but really a strong look at Kelly. I hope their adventure is as well received as Seis' have been.

What upcoming projects are you working on?

More Dominion books as they come easily. I have a novel that is a stand alone that I've been working on forever called, Evolution. I'd really like to have that done and at least submitted by the end of the year. I also have another supernatural series that I'm working on, but I can only write so fast. :)
