Sweet on Sweets

It's hard to believe, but I was first introduced to Mr. Sweets back in 2010 on GoodReads. I have to say, then he was just another avid reader like myself who I nicknamed Sweets because he is so amazingly...you guessed it, Sweet.

Now, this reader turned author has two new releases heading our way. Here is a little peak into the world of Zach Sweets!!

What made you want to become an author?

I did attempt to write when I was in middle school and I’ll never forget the look on my teacher’s face. Her cheeks were completely red. You guessed right, I wrote very first erotic story between man and woman. The teacher told me I wrote them well but it wasn’t appropriate for school. She was willing to let it go and warned me if it happened again, she’d have no choice but send me to the principal. So, I continue writing sex scenes in my own time without sharing with anyone. I wish I saved them but I didn’t because I moved too much. I stop writing ever since I moved to California from Kansas and I even stop reading. I finally read again only two years ago and Soul Mates series by Jourdan Lane were the first M/M books I’ve read. I fell in love with it and started to get involve in many reading challenges. Somehow, it gave me the motivation to write again. After sharing the public with my first free story I did for fun (Luscious Love), I just want to keep writing. Becoming a published author was my ultimately goal. Not just that, I got invited to a writing group a little over a year ago, they’ve been a huge support and did everything to help me keep writing. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be a published author. In the result, I’ve got two stories accepted by Less Than Three Press that comes out on February 15 and April 18. There are so many stories I want to share with every one of you. J

What do you hope readers will take away from your stories?

I want my stories to be remembered for rest of their life, which seem close to impossible but it’s a cool goal, though! ;D But really, I have been focusing on writing my stories that have Deaf characters and I want to show the readers what it would be like if they were Deaf in a specific situation. For instance, in Luscious Love, I showed the reader how Wendell struggled to find a job due to his deafness. However, I want to expand Wendell’s story and show the REAL struggles based on his lifestyle and his relationship with Caleb. I would share more examples but I don’t want to spoil Hal and Rusty’s story. You’ll need to read Rusty’s Surprise (that one comes out February 15 by Less Than Three’s Valentine Collections).

Tell us about Hal and Rusty!!

They’re going to be one of my favorite characters to write. Rusty and Hal are both deaf. Rusty is a supervisor of a construction company and his employees are not happy being ordered by Rusty. It’s more of discrimination issue between him and his employees but Rusty never lets that pull him down. He works his butt off to get to that position. Hal is a data entry worker. He goes to martial arts classes and had several belts. Rusty gets home early to prepare several surprises for Hal while he is at work. When Hal comes home, everything goes awesome between them. Until one very last crazy surprise shocked him completely in the morning. You’ll need to read Rusty’s Surprise to find out what kind surprise that shocked them. :D

How will you be spending your Valentine's Day?

This year, it’s the first time my lover and I have no idea what we’ll do for Valentine’s Day. I definitely will try to find something that is priceless but a memorable gift for my lover. A romantic dinner is something I think it’ll happen as well. We’ll have a nice time together, if you know what I’m talking about. Ha ha

What advice would you give to those seeking publication dreams?

Find a writing group. They’re a huge bonus in your life. It’s a place where you can learn a lot from mistake in writing and get a complete support from them.

Don’t ever stop writing but if you are having a major writing block then take a break for a couple of hours maybe a few days. Don’t feel discourage if someone gave you a firm feedback. A firm, honest, and blunt feedback is the best way to improve your work.

Keep reading. Watch specific movie genre as much as you can to see how the director/producer showed the movie. Research a lot. If you dreamed something that would be helpful to your stories, write them down as a note or an outline.

The zombies are coming!! What can we expect from Zombie Rain?

It’s a story between Jake and Rex going on the journey to seek for more survivors. Something happened to Jake among the trip. It’s not a normal zombie read you’d read either. Yes, they turned and eat people but they behaved differently this time. There’s some power involves. If I keep talking, I’ll end up spoiling the story. ;D
